International Symposium on Occupational Health and Safety in Mining Operations 2025

The International Symposium on Occupational Health and Safety in Mining Operations 2025 was organized by the İzmir Branch of the Turkish Chamber of Mining Engineers (TMMOB) in collaboration with the Department of Mining Engineering at Dokuz Eylül University on May 14-15, 2025, in Soma, Manisa.

Following the opening speeches, the invited speakers were Mr. Turgay ONARGAN (Investigation of the Effect Level of Horizontal Stresses in Collapse Accidents in Underground Workings in Coal Mining), Mr. İsmet CANBULAT (Online Health and Safety Management Systems in Australian Mining), and Mr. Cemalettin Okay AKSOY (Introduction to the Project on Improving Occupational Health and Safety Climate in Mining Operations: Case Study - Phase 1 Results). In the afternoon, the other invited speakers, Mr. İsa Ersoy, Ms. Ayşe Coşkun Beyan, Mr. Çağlar Öztürk, and Ms. Yasemin Yahşi, delivered their presentations.

In the symposium, where 37 presentations were made in seven sessions, the presentations by Büşra Ayşe DİLEK, Derya TOPKAYA TAŞKIRAN, and Sami BODUR on “Artificial Intelligence Applications in Occupational Safety and Health” and the presentations by Anıl ÖZIRMAK and Mete KUN on “A Bibliometric Analysis on Machine Learning in Occupational Safety and Health” attracted attention.

The program also included Caner Tuz and Emre Can IĞDIR's "Phenol and Formaldehyde Gas Measurements in Phenol Foam Applications: Case Study,“ and Oktay YAZICI, İbrahim DURNA, Gazi KARŞI, Ömer VAROL, and Sedat C. TOSMAK's ”Occupational Health and Safety Risk Management in a Mechanized Coal Mine in the Thrace Region" were also included in the program.

Presentations were made according to mining areas: “Occupational Health and Safety in Solution Mining” (Celil ÇEVİK, Arda ÖZTÜRK), “Occupational Health and Safety in Ore Preparation and Enrichment Plants” (Yasin ÇİNÇİN), “Occupational Health and Safety in Quarries” (İbrahim Çobanoğlu, İsmail Dinçer, Sefer Beran Çelik, Kazım Gireson) were presented.
