Geological Collections of Türkiye Workshop

An important event will be held to preserve, promote, and highlight Türkiye’s geological heritage at the international level. The “Geological Collections of Türkiye Workshop” will take place on December 4–5, 2025, at the General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration (MTA) in Ankara.

The workshop is being organized under the leadership of the Cultural Geology and Geological Heritage Working Group of the Chamber of Geological Engineers of Türkiye, in cooperation with the General Directorate of Cultural Assets and Museums of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the MTA Şehit Cuma Dağ Museum of Natural History, the Geological Sciences National Union of Türkiye (TUJBB), the Association for the Conservation of Geological Heritage (JEMİRKO), and the Geoscience Education Working Group (YEÇG).

The event aims to identify Türkiye’s geological collections (minerals, rocks, fossils, etc.) within the framework of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) criteria. As an outcome, it is expected that a geological collection of outstanding scientific, historical, and/or educational value will first gain national recognition and later be included in the “Global Geocollections List” by IUGS. This step is anticipated to contribute to the promotion of Türkiye while also supporting development through geotourism.

Organizers emphasize that the successful realization of the workshop, befitting the geoscience community, will be possible with the participation and contributions of colleagues. All interested individuals and institutions are invited to attend and contribute by submitting papers.
