The 77th Geological Congress of Turkey, organized annually by TMMOB Chamber of Geological Engineers, was held with the main theme of “Mining and Environment” between 14-18 April 2025 at MTA General Directorate Culture Site. Prof. Dr. Cüneyt ŞEN was the Chairman of the Organizing Committee.

A large number of presentations and 40 poster presentations were made in 45 sessions held in four halls including Sadrettin Alpan Hall.

The Assembly aims to provide accurate and effective information to the society and decision makers about the issues such as the exploration and discovery of minerals, which is one of the main elements in the development of our civilization, as well as what needs to be done to ensure that our environment, which is essential for our life, is minimally affected by mining activities. In addition, our congress aims to provide an environment where basic issues related to geosciences are discussed and where researchers who are devoted to geosciences can communicate with each other.

The opening speeches of the Congress, which was held in four halls at MTA Cultural Complex, were made by Mr. Cüneyt ŞEN, Mr. Hüseyin ALAN (JMO), Mr. Vedat YANIK (MTA), Mr. Ahmet TÜRKOĞLU (TPAO), Mr. Abdullah TANCAN (Deputy Minister of MENR). Mr. Ayhan YÜKSEL, son of the late Sadrettin ALPAN and President of the Chamber of Mining Engineers, spoke about the late Sadrettin ALPAN.

After the “Golden Hammer and Service Awards” ceremony given by the Chamber of Geological Engineers, Prof. Dr. Atiye TUĞRUL gave the Opening Lecture titled “Mining and Environment”. After the opening of the Poster, Painting and Exhibition Area, the sessions started.
