Responsible Gold Mining Conference - We attended the "Responsible Gold Mining Conference" organized by the Gold Miners Association and the World Gold Council in Ankara on May 16, 2024. The conference started with the opening speech of Mr. Mehmet YILMAZ, President of the Gold Miners Association, followed by the speech of David Tait, CEO of the World Gold Council.
After a coffee break, the meeting was followed by the keynote speeches of Mr. John READE, Chief Market Strategist of the World Gold Council, "Gold Market Overview", Mr. John Mulligan, Market Realities and Climate Change Leader of the World Gold Council, "Gold Mining: Sustainability and ESG" by Mr. John Mulligan, Market Realities and Climate Change Leader at the World Gold Council, "Gold Mining: Sustainability and ESG" by Mr. Behnar KARAŞEN, International Project Director at Rare Metal Refinery, "Sustainability and Gold Refinery" by Mr. Jale Şakıyan ATEŞ, Environment and Sustainability Group Manager at TÜPRAG, "Heap Leaching, Design-Application-Audit".
The presentations after lunch were as follows:  Ms. Bilge KÜÇÜKAYTAN, TÜMAD Integrated Management Systems and Sustainability Manager, presented "Biodiversity Practices: İvrindi and Lapseki Gold Mines" by Ms. Bilge KÜÇÜKAYTAN, Integrated Management Systems and Sustainability Manager at TÜMAD; "Gold and Climate Change" by Mr. John Mulligan, Market Realities and Climate Change Leader at World Gold Council; "Water Management in Gold Mining" by Mr. Ömer KAHRAMAN, Environment and Sustainability Specialist at TÜPRAG; and "International Cyanide Code Management at ÖKSÜT Gold Mine" by Ms. Pelin Usta ÖZKAHYAN, ESG Director at ÖKSÜT Mining.
After the coffee break, a panel titled "The Importance of the Gold Sector in Creating Value Added in Turkey" was held, moderated by Mr. Kurtuluş Taşkale Diamondopoulos (WGC Central Banks and Public Policy Director). Emek GÜNAYDIN (Deputy General Manager of Borrowing at the Ministry of Treasury and Finance), Güzhan GÜLAY (Deputy General Manager of Borsa Istanbul) and Ayşen ESSEN (CEO of Istanbul Gold Refinery) were the speakers of the panel.
The conference concluded with closing remarks.
