MSTG’25 Seminar on Latest Technologies and Sectoral Developments in Mining

The event was organized by the Department of Mining Engineering at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa on May 20, 2025, at the Engineering Faculty Hall on the University's Avcılar Campus. The presentations, which took place in two sessions, began after the opening speeches. Fourteen presentations were made on technological developments in the mining sector and R&D activities.


The presentations by Prof. Dr. İlgün KURŞUN, Head of the Department of Mining Engineering, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kenan ÇİNKU were titled "Critical Raw Materials: Economic, Technological, and Strategic Importance.“ Presentations on mining operations were given by Mr. Oktay Yazıcı, Mining Coordinator of the Kiremitçiler Group, ”Kiremitçiler Group's Fully Mechanized Applications and Results in Coal Production in the Thrace Basin," Mr. Necip Fazıl İLBAK and Mr. Yasin ÇINAROĞLU's “Acacia Mining Operations Open Pit Mining and Ore Enrichment Applications”, Mr. Mahir Taylan KÖYLÜOĞLU and Mr. Barış ÖZKORKMAZ from ÖKSÜT Mining's "Changing Mining: Digital Transformation and Technological Advancements" .

In the field of ore preparation, Özgün DARILMAZ, Digital Solutions Leader at Çayeli, presented “Innovative Ore Preparation Solutions at Çayeli Copper Operations,” while Engin TUMBAZ and Ali Arda AKSOY from ENG Mineral presented “New Developments in Magnetic Separation Technologies.”

In waste management, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz ADIGÜZEL and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serkan TÜYLÜ from the Mining Department of Istanbul University shared their experiences on “New Approaches to Waste Management for Sustainable Mining,” while Ulaş Emre ARSLAN from Newtech Chemical and Dr. Kağan ÖZDEMİR from the Mining Department of Istanbul University shared their experiences on “The Use of Flocculants and Coagulants in the Mining Sector and Waste Dewatering Technologies.” Kağan ÖZDEMİR from the Mining Department of İÜC shared their experiences on “Use of Flocculants and Coagulants in the Mining Sector and Waste Dewatering Technologies”. Mr. Mehmet Ali GÜNGÖR from Koza Altın İşletmeleri gave a presentation titled “The Use of Geophysics and Remote Sensing Methods in Innovative Mining Exploration,” which was an example of innovations in mining exploration. There were also presentations on tunneling technologies.
