Zero Waste in Mines (VALORE2025 Zero Waste Valorisation of Mineral Resources) International Event

The International event on “Zero Waste Valorisation of Mineral Resources” hosted by the Department of Mining Engineering of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University on 3-4 April 2025 was attended by participants from the UK, Sweden, Slovakia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The event is intended to be a platform to discuss possible alternative approaches and solutions for the valorization of mineral resources and their wastes.

Prof. Dr. Metin AKTAN gave a keynote speech on “Turkish Mining, Investment Opportunities and Developments and Strategic Targets Regarding Zero Waste in Mines” and a panel discussion on "Zero Waste in Mines: The Case of Coal Gasification" in the panel events.

Other speakers at the event were Dr. Hikmet SİS from İnönü University (Evaluation of Construction and Demolition Wastes for Sustainable Raw Material Supply), Dr. Hacı Deveci from Karadeniz Technical University (Fly Ash: Resource Potential and Evaluation Strategies), Dr. Taki GÜLER from Sıtkı Koçman University (Evaluation of Mining Wastes in Muğla Region), Dr. Matej Baláž from Slovakia Geotechnical Institute SAS (Evaluation of Turkish Wastes Using Mechanochemistry) and Dr. Matej Baláž from Slovakia Geotechnical Institute SAS (Evaluation of Turkish Wastes Using Mechanochemistry). Taki GÜLER from Sıtkı Koçman University (Evaluation of Mining Wastes in Muğla Region), Dr. Matej Baláž from Slovakia Geotechnical Institute SAS (Evaluation of Turkish Tailings Using Mechanochemistry) and Dr. Habib Sarıdikmen from Six Element, UK (Reducing Waste Rock Production: New Diamond Assisted Cutting Technology).

Within the scope of the event, "Zero Waste Utilization of Feldspathic Ores: Green and Sustainable Sourcing for Strategic Raw Materials" ERA-MIN3 closing meeting was held.
