Symposium on Future Technologies and Technology Policies
9-10 Mayıs 2025The symposium was held on May 9-10, 2025, at the Ankara Mechanical Engineers Association facilities, organized by the Turkish Chamber of Mechanical Engineers (TMMOB) in collaboration with the Association of Computer Engineers and the Association of Electrical Engineers. The primary objective of the symposium, as stated in the relevant document, is to “provide information about potential technological developments in the near future in light of current and recent technological advancements, facilitate the creation of a discussion platform, and ensure broader participation in the formulation of technology policies.”
“Future technologies, while primarily fueled by academic research, will be more easily achieved by bringing together practitioners, enthusiasts, technology policymakers, and, of course, professional associations.” The scope of the symposium was defined as follows: Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Work, Internet of Things,
Autonomous Vehicles and Industry, Artificial Intelligence, Robots and Philosophy, Technology Policies for a Better Future, Space Technologies and Space Mining, Smart Cities, Health and Disaster Applications, The Role of Materials Science and Engineering in Future Technologies, Biomedical and Medical Technologies.
The symposium began with opening speeches by Mahir ULUTAŞ, President of the Electrical Engineers Chamber, Cem Nuri ALDAŞ, President of the Computer Engineers Chamber, and Emin KORAMAZ, President of TMMOB.
On the first day of the symposium, Dr. Arif KOŞAR spoke on Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Work, followed by a panel discussion moderated by Mehmet BOZKIRLIOĞLU, featuring Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erol ŞAHİN, Özden SİCİM, and Dr. Hakan GİRGİN presented on the main topic of “The Internet of Things, Autonomous Vehicles, and Industry,” while Dr. Özgür TABUROĞLU presented on “Artificial Intelligence, Robots, and Philosophy.” At the end of the first day, the Technology Policies Forum for a Better Future was moderated by Prof. Dr. Mehmet Teoman PAMUKÇU.
On the second day of the symposium, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Halil Ersin SÖKEN and Dr. Mehmet Ali AK presented on “Developments in Satellite and Space Technologies,” while Prof. Dr. Ebru SEZER, Can DAĞDELEN, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Caner GÜNEY; “The Role of Materials Science and Engineering in Future Technologies” by Prof. Dr. Cemil Hakan GÜR; and “Biomedical and Medical Technologies” by Prof. Dr. Funda BAŞARAN, moderated by Prof. Dr. Çağhan KIZIL and Dr. Onur KOÇAK.
