Workshop on the Role of Public Relations in the Use of Natural Resources

The workshop titled “The Role of Public Relations in the Use of Natural Resources from the Perspectives of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and Climate Change” was organized by the Turkish National Commission for UNESCO and the Turkish Petroleum Corporation, with the support of JEMİRKO and YEÇG, on May 12, 2025, at the MTA Sadrettin Alpan Hall.

The opening speeches were delivered by Mr. Halil İbrahim KIRŞAN, Chairman of the Mining Council of the Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB); Mr. Doç. Dr. Zühtü BATI, Deputy General Manager of TPAO; Mr. Veli ALTINDAĞ, Deputy General Manager of MTA; Mr. Afire SEVER, General Director of Water Management at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry; and Prof. Dr. M. Öcal OĞUZ, President of the UNESCO National Commission of Turkey.

The keynote speech was delivered by Prof. Dr. Nabi AVCI (former President of the UNESCO National Commission of Turkey) on the topic of “The Dissemination of Knowledge and Its Consequences.” Following this, in the session titled “Public Relations for the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals,” Prof. Dr. Bertil Emrah ODER, Prof. Dr. Senem GENÇTÜRK HIZAL, and Zeynep ERSAYIN; and in the session titled “Public Relations for a Knowledge-Based Society,” Prof. Dr. Deniz BAYRAKTAR, Dr. Serkan ÖKTEN, and Prof. Dr. Fatih KESKİN delivered their presentations.

The final session was titled “Natural Resources and Public Relations.” In this session, Prof. Dr. Cemal TALUĞ, President of TARGET Agriculture and Food Ethics, spoke on “The Sources of What We Eat,” Satık Buğra FINDIK, Deputy Director General of Water Management at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, spoke on “Water Conservation,” and Mustafa YILMAZ, Director of Strategy and Corporate Development at TCDD Transportation Inc. General Directorate Strategy and Corporate Development Department Head Mustafa YILMAZ spoke on “Energy Conservation in Railway Transportation,” and Onur AYDIN discussed “Mining is Life, Life is Communication.”

The workshop concluded with a meeting and discussion of the results.
